Aspirin May Prevent Colon Cancer in Women

A recent study showed that taking aspirin could in fact reduce your risk of getting colon cancer. Although the study only involved data taking from a sampling of women, it appears that aspirin may possibly prevent colon cancer, or so they say? Aspirin is over 100-years old and appears to cure lots of things, yet many were shocked to learn of this latest finding, still other completely doubt the study. The study showed that people who already had polyps maybe able to prevent the onset of colon cancer thru regular use of aspirin. The researchers went on to extrapolate that it could help those without polyps from getting one in the first place.

Now several articles in major Medical Journals are showing that if you took aspirin for a decade 1-2 per week, it would reduce the risk of colorectal cancer by a large margin over those who did not take aspirin regularly. Some of the researchers in near by fields were not surprised while other totally doubted the findings as hogwash. They are saying that any anti-inflammatory drug may have done the same and would certainly help to keep removed polyps from returning, thus reduce the risk of cancer. The study indicated that 14 aspirins per week or 2 every day would reduce the chances of colon cancer by nearly one-third. Those who took even more are said to reduce colon cancer by over 50 percentiles. Of course taking that many aspirins is not good for you, over use of aspirin can cause bleeding. So although the study appears to be a wash for many belief systems of cancer researchers, the evidence is notable and very telling. All this research is helping us fight some of the more serious forms of cancer killers. Think on this and live strong.

The History of Air Purifiers

It's nice to be able to breathe--that's something we take for granted sometimes. However, for almost two hundred years scientists, researchers, doctors, and businesses have worked diligently to allow people the every day luxury of breathing. Today with almost ten million asthma suffers alone, air purifiers are offering allergy sufferers, firefighters, soldiers, coal miners, hospital workers, PC manufacturers, factory workers, etc. the opportunity to breathe easier with an absolute plethora of products. Air purifiers and cleaners have evolved by leaps and bounds from the original inhalers and lung protectors of the early days and continue to evolve to meet the constant need to breathe.

In the early 1800's, John and Charles Dean developed a mask for firefighters that allowed them to charge into burning buildings without being overcome with smoke fumes. Along the same time, breathing masks for divers and coal miners were also being developed. In the early 1850's, John Stenhouse developed a charcoal based filter which became the first gas mask. The original breathing masks and gas masks focused on filtering out specific enemies using an approach called High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA). The addition of charcoal to the filtration system was a huge advancement because the charcoal filtered multiple toxins.

World War II brought about one of the largest advancements in air filtration / purification history with the Manhattan Project. This project focused scientists and government funding on developing a breathing apparatus that would protect soldiers from which was later revealed to be the atomic b*mb. That development prompted further advancements to combat chlorine gas, flame throwers, and mustard gas. A few years later the Ebola plague in Africa drew attention to the need for electronic generator air filters / purifiers. Corona Discharge Systems (CDS) used a spark to convert oxygen to ozone and allowed victims the gift of clean air to breathe.

Over the last twenty years the terms MCS - Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and ETS - Environmental Tobacco Smoke have become an integral part of air filtration / purification technology. Early filtration focused on toxic chemicals, noxious gas, and foul orders while more modern filtration devices focused on mold, viruses, bacteria. The need for the air purification devices has expanded over the years to include protection against fabric chemicals, perfumes, building materials, pesticides, dust mites, pollen, food odors, along with the plain ole' desire for fresh air.

The 1980's brought attention to the concept of a dust free environment. HEPA filters screen 99.7% of all 0.3 micron breathing offenders. Newer developments such as nebulizers for asthma patients and AHPCO ' Advanced Hydrated Photocatalytic Technical Quad Catalyst Ultraviolet Cells have helped bring filtration rates to 99.7% of all microns 0.1 and larger. The Hepa air cleaner now act as air purifiers using granular carbon filters, among many other types, to cleanse the air of as many unwanted pollutants as possible.

The number of applications has grown over the years, along with the technology and development of the air filtration and purification process. Thanks to almost two hundred years of research, the end result is the fulfillment of the simple desire to breathe.

"Pinkeye" Conjunctivitis

Commonly known as pinkeye, Conjunctivitis is the inflammation of the outer most layer of the eye and the inner side of the eyelid. Conjunctivitis infections commonly come in one of three flavours: viral, bacterial, or allergic. There is, however, several other cases of less common conjunctivitis:

- Chemicals

- Thermal and ultraviolet burns

- Foreign bodies

- Overuse of contact lenses

- Toxins

- Vitamin deficiency

- Dry eye, sometimes due to inadequate eyelid closure

- Exposure to chickens infected with Newcastle disease

Lets take a quick look at the three most common types of conjunctivitis.

The first is viral conjunctivitis. This type is transmitted by contact with a variety of contagious viruses. These required viruses need not be any harsher than the common cold virus, as these cases are generally associated with upper respiratrory tract symptoms.

Bacterial conjunctivitis is most commonly caused by the infected's own skin or respiratory flora due to pyogenic bacteria. Another common way to spread infection, generally by females, is through sharing of facial lotions or eye makeup. And lastly, it is possible to share this kind of pinkeye through contact with other people and/or their environment.

The last form that we will be looking at is allergetic conjuctivitis. This type generally follows a seasonal pattern, and is more common among those with allergic conditions. Unlike the others, allergetic conjuctivitis tends to take over both eyes, and is accompanied by swollen eyelids. It is caused by reactions to such substances as perfume, drugs, cosmetics, contact lenses, or protein deposits.

Bad Lifestyle Choices that can be Avoided

It is easy to sabotage your own health. Without even realizing it, you could be setting yourself up for numerous health problems down the road, simply by making bad lifestyle choices. There are several ways that you could be endangering your health and shortening your lifespan. But those poor health choices can easily be changed, and it is never too late to improve your health.

1. Smoking ? Smoking is a highly addictive habit that affects millions of people. The effects of smoking can lead to cancer, heart disease, and emphysema. It can also have long-term negative effects on your throat, your digestive system, your skeletal system, and your skin. And, the smoke that is released from cigarettes can cause great harm to those around you.

2. Poor diet ? Both eating too much and eating the wrong types of foods can lead to long-term health problems. Eat too much (meaning having no regard for portion sizes) and you are likely to suffer from hypertension, obesity, high cholesterol, diabetes, and heart disease. Eating the wrong foods (meaning fast foods, high fat snacks, and highly processed foods) can also lead to obesity, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. Any of these conditions can cause stroke, heart attack, and death. Stick to natural, fresh foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains for the bulk of your diet. ?Cheating? once in a while is ok, too!

3. Excessive drinking ? Excessive drinking can lead to long-term liver damage, and it can affect your overall physical and mental health. Drinking and driving cannot only injure or kill you, but it can injure or kill others as well. The key to drinking alcohol is moderation, and if you have had even one drink, let someone who has not been drinking drive the car.

4. Not moving your body ? Exercise is hard. It takes time. It takes commitment. But it helps you to control your weight, look great, feel strong and limber, have more energy, it lowers your blood pressure, increases your HDL cholesterol (that?s the good one!), and relieves stress. Why wouldn?t you want to do something that will give you all of those things? Walk, jog, swim, play with your kids in the backyard ? do something to keep your body moving!

5. Ignoring stress ? Some stress is good, it can be a motivator. Too much stress, though, can lead to a whole host of problems if it is ignored: high blood pressure, depression, severe headaches, or digestive problems. Find something that you enjoy doing and that relaxes you: exercising, meditating, gardening, and reading, anything that helps you leave your stress at the door.

6. Not sleeping enough ? Not getting enough sleep affects your judgment, your reaction time, and your mood. This can put you and others in danger, and it can affect your professional and personal relationships. Try to get at least 6-8 hours of sleep each night.

Making bad lifestyle choices, whether they are conscious or not, can mean the difference between a shorter life filled with health problems and a longer life filled with vitality and happiness. Being aware of the things that you can do to make your life better is fundamental to living a long and healthy life. You owe it to yourself and your loved ones!

How to Get Rid Of Lice

Are you irritated by your itchy scalp? Do friends and officemates make fun of you because you always scratch your head? If you are experiencing this common problem, then chances are you have lice. Start to get rid of it now!

1. What are lice?

Lice are small parasite-like insects. Their home is on the hairs of people. They eat by sucking a small quantity of blood from our scalp. Lice usually thrive on scalps of 3 to 12 year-old kids. Girls are much more susceptible to lice than boys.

2. Lice facts:

- Lice do not pose a significant risk to our health - Lice can easily spread from one person to another - The feeling of itchiness is caused by the lice bites - Frequent scratching of the scalp can cause further inflammation - In rare cases, the skin can be infected which may trigger infection

3. How to treat lice:

Lice shampoos and lotions can be directly bought over-the-counter or can be prescribed. The medications are based on the lice treatment history of the patient. Do not experiment on these treatments because they are very much like insecticides. Follow your doctor?s advice or instructions carefully. The directions on the shampoo or lotion should be strictly followed so that the treatment can be effective. Your doctor may also ask you to buy hair rinses that are made to untangle hair.

These lice treatments most often than not, completely eradicate lice although continuous usage is needed for it to take affect. Seven to ten days is the common treatment period for lice by this method. Before stopping medication, you should be positive that all lice are killed since they can easily reproduce and come back with a vengeance.

4. Lice removal tips:

- Lice lay eggs attached to the base of the hair. In addition to using medication, it is recommended, especially for children ages 2 to 6, to manually remove the eggs from the hair one by one - Combs with fine bristles should be used to comb your child?s hair after taking a bath - Shampoo hair 3 up to 4 days in a span of 2 weeks. The hair should be wet before combing - Beddings and clothes that are just worn by someone with lice should be washed in very hot water - Store clothing and anything else that can not be washed in bags that are airtight for two weeks, such as toys or bedcovers - Carpet and upholstery in homes and cars should be vacuum cleaned regularly - Submerge objects like brushes, combs, headbands, hair ties and barrettes in rubbing alcohol or shampoo for lice treatment for one hour, or dispose of them - Do not utilize hair dryers to dry the hair of your child after putting on the anti-lice medication. Some chemicals in the shampoo or lotion are flammable - Shampoos and conditioners should not be used prior to lice treatment application - Sprays or pest control should not be used to kill lice. It could do more harm than good. It can also be poisonous - Lice treatment should not be used or applied to a single person for more than three times. If the lice are still there after three applications, the medication should be changed. - One lice treatment should be used at time. Do not alternate it with another

What to Look for When Hiring a Yoga Teacher (Part 2)

Safety is a number one priority. Yoga teachers, who take risks with their students, put your business at risk. The Yoga teacher, who physically abuses, his or her students, is not in the right profession.

Compassion is more than diplomacy and popularity, but these are a big help. When a Yoga teacher has compassion, the class is motivated to come back to the next Yoga class. This is a ?win-win? situation for any facility, which employs compassionate Yoga instructors.

Communication is more than good cueing skills. Students learn primarily by seeing, listening, and feeling. One of these senses will be more dominant than the rest. A competent Yoga teacher will be able to reach all of these types of students.

Cueing is a skill refined by describing specifically how the body moves from one posture to the next. This is the hardest communication skill for most Yoga teachers to master.

Assisting is another communication skill, but must be applied gently, and with knowledge of alignment. Yoga teachers should ask for permission before making an assist. Otherwise, this can lead to misunderstandings. Assisting is great, but should not take over the entire class.

Demonstrating is very important. Some Yoga instructors like to walk around and cue. This is fine for part of the class, but what about the Yoga student who learns visually? This student is looking around at the Yoga teacher and everyone else.

Knowledge of alignment is not hard to learn, but some teachers get carried away with ?their own demonstration? and forget about everyone in the room. If a Yoga student is showing poor posture, it should be corrected.

Listening does not seem like a ?big deal,? but what about the Yoga teacher who doesn?t listen to his or her students? For example: A student has a problem in the L-5 area and the Yoga teacher decides to push the lower back a little. This could also be a lack of compassion, but some Yoga teachers do not listen to their students at all.

Modifications for beginners, older students, or those who have limited range of motion, due to skeletal compression are very important. The Yoga teacher, who makes no allowance for these conditions, also puts your facility at risk. Therefore, all Yoga teachers should know how to use props and have a good grasp of body mechanics.

Lack of teacher ethics can put you out of business. We are all aware of the consequences of harassment suits, so we do not have to go too deeply on this one. The best Yoga teachers treat everyone fair and equally. Discrimination of any kind is wrong and very costly.

Continuing education is important in any field, and Yoga is no different. Yoga teachers should stay current in their knowledge of safety, modifications, anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology. They should also learn how to keep Yoga classes interesting with fresh ideas. In turn, this keeps members coming back for more.

Therefore, the best selection is a Yoga teacher with a balance of all these factors. The one dimensional Yoga teacher is not an optimum fit for any organization. Within this current climate of liability suits, safety is the most important factor of all.

Lastly, ask each Yoga candidate do an audition, and do not hire him or her until you have been part of the Yoga class. Always remember, ?Seeing is believing? and ?talk is cheap.?

Vitamins: For Youth Health and Healing Check Out Vitamin E

Vitamin E is one of the natural antioxidants, proven to help your body fight several health problems and to fend off some of the natural signs of aging. Severe deficiencies of Vitamin E are rare, though some people may not be getting the full recommended daily allowances of many vitamins, including Vitamin E.

There are two recent advances in the understanding of Vitamin E that could ultimately impact a reduction in the tendency for some people to experience heart problems and cancer. Studies are still inconclusive and there seems to be several opinions as to the ultimate outcome of the benefits of Vitamin E to seriously impact these two major health concerns. Whether Vitamin E will ultimately become a viable treatment for those at high risk for heart disease and cancer remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, the benefits of Vitamin E as an antioxidant to help fight aging continue to be touted. Vitamin E supplements are also prescribed in some cases to help those adults at risk for developing cataracts.

Some manufacturers of cold sore medications include Vitamin E to help speed the healing process. A combination of Vitamin E and aloe vera seems to be a very popular remedy that many claim to be very effective in the treatment of severely chapped lips, cold sores and minor infections.

Two groups of people seem to be most at risk for low levels of Vitamin E in the body. Some people have trouble absorbing all fat-soluble vitamins and may show symptoms of deficiencies of several vitamins, including E. Babies who are born prematurely may also be at risk for some time following birth. Some other factors may play a role, including the tendency toward extremely poor eating habits and even some genetic disorders.

Oils tend to be high in Vitamin E with sunflower oil being near the top of that list. A single tablespoon of sunflower oil may provide up to a quarter of the daily recommended allowance for Vitamin E. Corn oil is another viable source. Peanuts, sunflower kernels and almonds are also good sources of this important vitamin.

While there are many uses and effects of sufficient daily consumption of Vitamin E, there continues to be a focus of using Vitamin E as an anti-aging agent. Nearly a decade ago, results of studies indicated that this vitamin slowed the aging process in laboratory experiments. Today, anti-aging creams and cosmetics often include Vitamin E.
